Removable Dentures
For many people, losing some or all of their natural teeth is primarily a cosmetic concern. However, not replacing missing teeth as soon as possible also presents significant oral health concerns.
Poor nutrition that occurs due to not being able to properly chew food is just one potential consequence of missing teeth. People who still retain some of their teeth also run the risk of those teeth shifting and causing problems with alignment. Western Slope Dental Center is pleased to offer full or partial removable dentures in Grand Junction, CO for better oral health and a smile patients will be proud to display.
What Are Removable Dentures?
Full dentures consist of two rows of artificial teeth attached to a plastic retainer that patients place in their mouth as soon as they wake up in the morning. A partial denture can contain as little as one artificial tooth or several consecutive top or bottom teeth.
The base of removable dentures is gum-colored and constructed from plastic resin. Removable dentures fit over bones remaining in the mouth. The top denture contains a plastic piece that creates suction to help it stay in place better. Our dentists ensure that all patients receiving removable dentures in Grand Junction, CO have a good initial fit. A snug fit is essential for the dentures to remain securely in the mouth.
What to Expect When Receiving Removable Dentures
The first step in making either full or partial dentures is for our dentist to obtain an impression of the patient’s teeth using molding material. Once the mold hardens, our dentist works with the Western Slope Dental Center laboratory to choose the correct size and shape according to patient specifications. When creating partial removable dentures, our dentists and laboratory technicians make sure that they match the color and shade of the patient’s remaining teeth as closely as possible.
Patients should not feel discouraged if their removable dentures feel uncomfortable or unnatural at first. They need to wear them a minimum number of hours per day as determined by their dentist to ensure a smooth adjustment process.
